The Stunt Spot

The Stunt Spot is a modular mat system designed for safety and technique training during stunt development. The enclosed system forms an above ground pit for the stunt group, decreasing the rate, speed, and height of the fall for the flyer and providing a soft landing surface upon impact. The flyer is protected in every direction and bases are “caught” during a fall by the inner mat system. This keeps the entire stunt group safe, as well as eliminates the dangers of traditional floor spotting where multiple athletes fall together to the ground.

The inside shape is designed to keep the bases in tight with minimal movement and prevents them from “stepping out” and forming bad technique. Additionally, the material used and specific height creates a spotting platform for coaches to manipulate the body at or near eye level, teaching body awareness, muscle memory, and confidence prior to groups attempting new skills alone. The spotter can also help safely guide the flyer to the landing surface, minimizing impact.

Add-ons include an insert making the middle smaller for younger groups who need less room, softer tops to add additional cushion if desired, and steps to aide in climbing in and out of the system.

The Stunt Spot breaks into four individual pieces that can be used all together (creating the fully enclosed pit), with 3 pieces which keeps the front open for inversion entries, 2 pieces that act as support for bracers during pyramid training, or one piece for skills that have been scaffolded and need less assistance.

The Stunt Spot is more than a piece of equipment - it  is a training system that puts athlete safety first and gives coaches an opportunity to be more hands on in the teaching process.
